Types of Dental Extractions

Although the thought of having a tooth removed may seem complicated, there are, in fact, only two types of dental extractions used in modern dentistry: simple tooth extraction and surgical tooth extraction.

Simple tooth extraction is performed on teeth that have become decayed or damaged beyond the point that they can be repaired with a dental crown or other restorative dentistry forms. Dr. Yelena Popkova will numb the area around the tooth that will be extracted, so the only sensation you’ll feel will be slight pressure. The procedure can be completed in one appointment, and you’ll receive complete aftercare instructions from Yelena Popkova, DDS before leaving our office.

Surgical tooth extraction is typically reserved for the removal of wisdom teeth. Of course, it is a more complex procedure that requires cutting into your gums to remove a tooth. As such, the recovery period is more extended than that of a simple tooth extraction, but aftercare instructions will be provided to ensure that recovery is achieved with minimal discomfort.
